The Importance of Reviews When Choosing a Tradesperson.

When choosing a tradesperson to carry out work to your precious home, it’s important to do your research. Going with the first person to come up on Google isn’t always the best way to go, and it pays to take time to find the right person. 

Reviews are a great place to look to find out more about a tradesperson, and get a sense of the quality of their work. 92% of consumers say they read online reviews, with 62% of which claiming that reviews influence their decision. 

It’s worth reading reviews from multiple sources, and understanding where to find trusted reviews. For example, we are listed on checkatrade.com – we went through a robust vetting process to achieve our listing on the site, as do all the tradespeople listed on checkatrade. 

A listing on checkatrade, or sites like trustatrader, is usually a good sign as there’s certain requirements that must be met by the tradesperson to be listed on there. Furthermore, we are consistently monitored and vetted by checkatrade to ensure we’re upholding their membership requirements (we are, of course!). 

Checkatrade also has a dedicated reviews team that works to ensure all reviews are genuine, so it’s a place where you can trust what you’re reading. 

Even if you’re satisfied with the reviews of a tradesperson, don’t be afraid to seek further assurance from the tradesperson themselves. Ask for evidence of qualifications, training and certification. For example, we are a HETAS registered supplier and installer, but you don’t just have to take our word for it, we are always happy to provide evidence to give further peace of mind. 

Also, ask for proof of insurance, references, whatever you want to see to make sure you’re choosing the right person and to protect yourself from potential “cowboy builders”. Genuine tradespeople should always be willing and happy to give proof to potential customers.
